WMC 2009

Pod, 19:01, 21 January 2009

Official announcement

The dates of the 24th annual Winter Music Conference have been announced. WMC 2009 will be March 24-28, 2009.

Rumors

Before the dates were officially announced, the rumor on Internet message forums was that WMC 2009 would be March 25-29, 2009,. Unlike most other conferences, WMC traditionally announces the event dates very late, normally late October or early November. The March 25-29, 2009 dates have been showing up around the Internet even before the official announcement.

Events

Like every year, nightclub WMC bookings can often be deduced by checking the websites, MySpace profiles, and Facebook pages of DJs, artists, and booking agencies. The local clubs themselves are often the last to present the listings.

The Talk Nightlife community will be gathering and posting dates and performances as they come in

A more concise listing can be found in the Talk Nightlife Guide.

TNL's own "Club Legend" Honky Tonk Man has also compiled a Google Spreadsheet of the true ticket (ticket price + surcharge) pricing of each DJ's performance for WMC.

Alan T.
Known as one of the most outrageous personalities in the South Florida nightlife scene, Alan T has had a storied history in the area, with a nightlife career ranging from the early 1980s, up until the present. Venues he has been involved with include, Space, Cameo, Gryphon, Parkwest, Salvation, Nerve, Aero Bar, Score, Twist, as well as many other venues around the world.

He was named one of South Florida Nightlife's Most Influential People by the Talk Nightlife web community in 2008.

A chameleon and Renaissance man, Alan T has covered so many bases that he should book his act into Yankee Stadium. Club and recording personality and host extraordinaire, architect and design guru to the famous and infamous, he is a jack of many trades who has managed to master them all.

Alan T studied at the prestigious Architectural Association in London and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in architecture from Columbia University. A longtime appreciator of the music and club scenes, he had dabbled in mixing and deejaying ‘just for fun’, and he seemed destined to pursue the career for which his education had prepared him.

But fate had other ideas. One night in the late 90s, Alan left a long and kaleidoscopic message on the answering machine of producer Mike ‘DaMooch’ Mucci. Full of the verbal twists and turns that would become an Alan T signature, this message led to Mucci’s creation of ‘Come & Get It’ (SFP Records*), which caused a sensation at Liquid and other clubs. With the buzz around him building, Alan hit the studio, and out of these sessions was born his debut track ‘The Door’, which swept the club scene like wildfire.

Ace deejay Danny Tenaglia proclaimed, ‘This should be heard everywhere’,and Danny’s 2001 remix of ‘The Door’ pumped more juice into the Alan T mystique. [...Alan T...]

Dade Sokoloff.
Dade Sokoloff.
Dade Sokoloff was the founder and owner of Shadow Lounge, an influential South Beach nightclub, which opened in 1997, and closed in August 2001. To this day, there is a yearly 'reunion' of Shadow Lounge DJs and fans at local Miami nightclubs such as Space.

He was named one of South Florida Nightlife's Most Influential People by the Talk Nightlife web community in 2008. He has also proudly served time in federal prison.

Dade "retired" from the Miami nightlife business in 2008 when he literally bought the farm and moved with his wife to New Hampshire. He's now one of the only people promoting electronic music in the Boston scene under the name "Kingsize Boston", with a grand opening that featured Deadmau5 at Underbar. Current rumors speculate Dade and his business partners will be involved in a new small-scale venue in Boston in the summer of 2009

Dade Sokoloff is well-known in the TNL community as a voice of discerning irreverence.

Biz Martinez

Biz Martinez.
Biz Martinez.
Regarded by the mainstream press and clubgoing population alike as one of the top event producers in the Miami scene, Biz Martinez has enjoyed a successful career throughout the first years of the 21st century.

Starting his career in the local nightlife scene as a promoter for some short-lived venues on South Beach, Biz soon progressed across the Macarthur Causeway in mid-2001 to the then-new Club Space in Downtown Miami. Catching the attention of owner/operator Louis Puig, Biz was tasked to push forward the evening/early morning outdoor terrace scene at the venue. Along with local DJ/Producer Roland, he developed the seminal Lunar Sessions party, which was the early counterpart to the already-legendary Sunrise Sessions party headed up by Ivano Bellini.

The Lunar Sessions rapidly became a local favorite, with a combination of Roland's eclectic, accessible track selection of house favorites and underground gems, as well as Biz's knack for hospitality and marketing the party to a broad base of nightlife denizens, from upscale players in the scene, to dedicated fans of the music.

As time progressed, Biz expanded the Lunar Sessions party into one of the defining events at Club Space, to the point where guest DJs at the venue were looking to end their main room sets early, and take to the turntables outdoors to greet the sunrise. DJs such as Steve Lawler, Sander Kleinenberg, and Sharam and Ali of Deep Dish would perform on a regular basis.

The Lunar Sessions lasted until December of 2004, when Biz and Roland, looking to expand their horizons, decided to take their event back to South Beach, and established a Saturday night residency at Amika, a club headed up by nightlife impresario Tony Guerra, and investor Ken Percy [...Biz Martinez...]
